The Minneapolis Community Development Agency, which owns both the Historic Orpheum and State Theatres, acquired the Orpheum in 1988 from the musician Bob Dylan for $1.4 million and financed the $10 million restoration and expansion of the theatre. Theatergoers paid for restoration of the 2,650 seat showplace through a historic restoration fee on all State and Orpheum theatre tickets.

The MCDA purchased the State Theatre in the late 1980s and provided $8.8 million in funding for the State Theatre as part of its assistance for construction of LaSalle Plaza, a retail, entertainment and office project, on the block bounded by Hennepin and LaSalle avenues and Eighth and Ninth streets. I was very much looking for an enjoyable evening,

Minneapolis , Historic Orpheum Theater

like many times before when we have attended shows at the Opheum. There were twelve of us in the party and all of us talking about it felt the same. This evening was far below previous shows that we have attended . We were all very dissappointed with several things. the seats way up in the balcony for 75$ where we could not hear very well and the orchestra was way to loud. The evening , going to be a valentine day special four our wives , turned out to be a very disappointed evening. We will think very hard next time we think about going out to a show

Three of us attended Mama Mia on Sunday afternoon and the production was superb and we enjoyed every minute of it. After all the wonderful encores, we sit down and are asked for donations for the AIDS foundation--this was very inappropriate and was a downer after the wonderful show we had just watched. This should have been placed in your program or not done at all. Please rethink a

request such as this in your productions. Thanks.
