I saw Armadillo Flats recently at The Hexagon. Sunday jam favorite Mark Heurkins, has a new truck drivin band. When it comes to country music, its either authentic or it aint. Armadillo Flats is as country as a dozen eggs. Twangin tele's and boogie woogie piano is like catnip to me, and these guys had my toe a' tapping! - Karen Walters, 05/30/2003
Country night at the Hexagon. Sounds innocuous enough, right? I love to sing with a live band, so I decide to give it a try. I am an old high school art student in my 30's. I walk in the door and an enormous black ten-gallon hat passes me. I almost turn tail and head for the exit, but something draws me inside. Maybe it's the beautiful smile of Rosie the waitress as she says 'Hi, honey!' Or maybe it's the angelic baritone that is Dan Gaarder, singing for the Country Doctors. I don't know, but I sidle up to the bar and secretly wish I'd worn my cowboy boots tonight. It's like a rift in time, this Hexagon Bar. And the country music classics just keep on a-comin. People from the audience croon 'Walkin' After Midnight' and play guitar and drums along with 'Act Naturally'. I am hooked. I am there every Sunday from 6-10 PM. And I am home and in bed before midnite, but going back to work on Monday morning feels like another world. - Jen, 02/08/2003
