Having traveled and eaten at many "southern" restaurants throughout the midwest and traveled and eaten at many real southern cooking restaurants I have to say Maxie's may not be a truely and only southern food restaurant but they do an excellent job of bringing the "southern comfort" part of every southern restaurant I've ever been too. The service and staff were just outstandingly friendly and the atmosphere was awesome. They had a decent selection of local and national "micro-brews." Now on to the food! Maxie's mighty mighty gumbo soup with rice was pretty good. The two entrees I've tried are the chicken fried chicken and pecan crusted rainbow trout. The chicken had an interesting curry taste to it which added a nice touch to this traditional dish. I liked the trout better though. It was soo tender and I adore fish crusted with pecans! But my favorite was the cornbread! I could eat that all day!!! It was so buttery tasting and moist....sigh....heavenly. - norm, 09/06/2010
