My husband and I have frequented Japanica for over 3 years now, and we have never had a bad experience or bad food. We absolutely love the spaciousness and ambience of the restaurant. It is very peaceful. We've dined at the Hibachi and at the booths, but never at the sushi bar yet. The Hibachi chefs are wonderfully creative and entertaining. We have been big fans of Japanica since it opened, but have had a very bad experience recently. We ordered food for carry-out, as we often have. But when our daughter and her friend went to pick the food up, the cost was considerably more than expected. We telephoned to the restaurant management and learned that they had changed their policy so that all sushi orders were two pieces instad of one. As a consequence, my $10 order of sushi was $20 and our kids didn't have enough money for the order. When we called to complain, restaurant management told us that they would simply charge us for for one order although they were giving us two. But when our kids returned to the restaurant, the sushi order was taken back to the kitchen, the extra pieces of suchi were remove, and fried shrimp heads (just the heads, no meat) were inserted in their place. We supose that this is the sushi equivalent of fish heads. We don't know if this was supposed to be a joke, or retaliation for our complaint, but it is tampering with food, and needless to say, we didn't eat the sushi because we didn't know what else might have been done to it. Based upon this experience, we would not recommend this restaurant and would be wary of eating anything prepred there. - Dave, 12/10/2006

I hope you get a review in soon, Japanica is WELL worth it. They have become my fave place in Milwaukee now for Sushi. No one else compares. And I mean no one. I've been to them all. It's clean and spacious, and it's friendly. Steven, the co-owner and master sushi chef knows his stuff. 100% fresh 100% of the time. If you want Sushi in Milwaukee, this is the only place to go. Period. Have a seat at the sushi bar, order some tea and have a great time. - Brenda, 11/28/2003
