The Black Rose is the latest incarnation of this space on Oakland. Back in the day when I lived in the area- it was called Kalts- then it was the Trattoria on Oakland and now this latest incarnation as an Irish Pub. It's still a college bar near to the UWM campus so don't go expecting haute cuisine. But the re-do of the interior of this place is nice- dark woods, tile floors and a comfortable bar area. And on the night I was there- a good mix of college kids and people over 30 (it was Summer, so I suspect that that mix will change in the Fall) Service was off and on. Off as the bartender had only been there a couple of days and knew nothing about bartending. Her manager, Andrew, on the otter hand, is certainly in the right business. He was personable, poured a great drink and was happy to remind us how to play bar dice - norm, 02/25/2010
