Ginger resides in what was once Barossa (and before that, Dish). Still owned by Julia LaLoggia, who also owns Redroom and Stonefly Brewery, I've heard that she's also the executive chef. Ginger offers a very pleasant small plate, if not true tapas experience. Each course we ordered was well prepared although slightly timid in its exploration of flavors. It was pleasant to learn that for a small plate restaurant, the portions were generous so returning for a second taste didn't feel like a desperate attempt at wringing water from an overpriced stone. While all the food we sampled was stunningly presented and very appetizing, Ginger's food seemed to suffer from an overall lack a bit of panache. A bit more punch to the flavors would certainly make it a much more interesting culinary experience. However, as it exists right now, Ginger is a nice place for a group dining experience. - norm, 05/14/2010
