I had my first experience at Balzac last night. It was the exact atmosphere I was looking for. It's incredibly chill with an amazing wine list and small plate selection. I started with a Spanish wine flight which included a generous tasting portion of a wine that usually sells for $16 a glass. The 3 wines were only $18. We ended up ordering another bottle of the Rioja from our flight.. Foodwise, the mussels are amazing. They are unique in that there is a spicy Bohemian sausage that infuses the mussels with a grilled flavor. We also had the La Espana cheese plate. It was delicious and beautifully laid out with colorful fruit and delicately sliced apples and pears. I wish this place was in my neighborhood in Chicago. It is definitely the classic definition of "Wine Bar" - norm, 02/25/2010
