I fondly remember the ethnic foods of Detroit over forty years ago. Do they still have the ethnic festival in the summer time? I still have cravings for the likes of Onassis Coney Islands, Frank Burgers from Frank's Bar, veal parmesan from Lilies Italian Restaurant, steaks from Carl's Chop house, Chinese food from Coconut Grove or The White Sun, pizza from Cardnelies(sp) and just plain old down home food from the little neighborhood restaurant Simpson's. Onassis Coney Island is good example of the coney island restaraunt in the Detroit tradition and certainly worth the trip. These restaurants have a great following for the unique flavor of thier hot dogs and loose hamburgers. Many places of this type in and around the Detroit area also serve a very good breakfast (usually 24 hours a day)typically at very reasonable prices.
