My friends and I have been coming to the Firkin to meet for years; truly unique draught and bottle beer, live music, knowledgable,friendly staff & amazing decor. The food from the burgers and salads to the fresh fish and steaks are amazing. Don't miss any of the monthly specials either. The Firkin would be a hit anywhere in Chicago. I was in town on business not too long ago and the guy I was consulting for took me to lunch here. I loved the atmosphere, and the friendly and fast service (even though it seemed particularly busy for a Monday at lunchtime). But I was really impressed by the food. There were a ton of options. I had some Baked French Onion soup that was obviously homemade and shrimp tacos which were awesome (with really good french fries). It also looked like they had a huge selection of beer and booze, but I was still working and wasn't drinking at lunch, so i came back for a drink later that night. they have great beer on draft and an awesome selection of tequilla, vodka, and gin. I really look foreward to getting back to Libertyville on another job, so I can get back to this place and see what else they have to offer. - GRbradley, 08/01/2007
The name Firkin comes from the Definition of Firkin: 1. Any small wooden vessel or cask 2. Any of various British units of capacity usually equal to 1/4 barrel. Simply put Firkin is "all about the beer" Now that does not mean they ignore the other fine liquors, seeing their impressive Premium Vodka and Tequila list will get your juices flowing. Now back to the Beer, it is remarkable, with so many unique and hard to find brews on their 25 plus handles. I'm always impressed by the new beers coming on draught. For tasting fun, they offer a half pint of most beers they serve. The entire Service and Bar staff are well informed about the newest drafts that are tapped, and they also have super ideas on food pairings to go along with the beers. The food menu has so many enticing options it can be hard to choose, don't hesitate to ask the server for their opinion and they will be happy to suggest some of the Firkin's best dishes. We go to enjoy live music on Tuesday & Thursday evenings. Try to get there early to have some tasty eats, you'll beat the crowds and get to keep your seats. It's Worth a Trip to Libertyville if you're looking for a fun experience. I am sure this place should be on everyone's map of great destinations to dine & party. - Sherrie, 07/24/2007
