Named for James W Jardine, this plant is designed to chemically treat and filter more than 1 million gallons of water per minute. Construction of this facility was completed in late 1964. The plant provides water to over 2.8 million people in the area of Chicago north of Pershing Road and certain adjacent suburban communities. Two massive tunnel systems carry water from the plant to seven pumping stations in the Central and North water districts. - wm, 09/15/2003
