Humboldt Park is named after Alex von Humboldt, German scientist and naturalist. A statue of von Humboldt stands near the boathouse ; it was cast in Europe and donated by Francis Dewes. This park opened in 1873. Total park area: 206 acres.

Near the center of the park stands a structure that was once a receptory and stables.

Many years ago, popular activities in the park included boating and ice skating. Today baseball is the most prevalent activity.
