The first building erected in Chicago, this landmark occupied two previous sites before being moved to its present location. Constructed on open land in 1836 (near what is now 16th & Michigan), it was moved to 45th and Wabash in 1872. In 1977 it was moved to its present site. It now houses a small museum, and is open for tours daily. Open for tours daily. - sys, 12/26/1999
