Detail for Chicago Board of Trade : Architecture
[an error occurred while processing this directive]
Atop the Board of Trade stands a statue of Ceres; Ceres was an Italian goddess of agriculture who was worshiped at Rome in the same way as Demeter. In 496, the Sibylline books ordered the introduction of her worship along with the Greek god and goddess, Dionysus and Persephone as Liber and Libera. - wm, 07/27/2003
I believe the Demeter and Ceres are the Greek and Roman goddesses of the Harvest. I also believe that Persephone is Demeter's daughter. The seasons (Fall and Winter) are a result of the torment that Demeter experiences when Persephone goes away to be with Hades. - AJ, 11/23/2008
