Southern Indian cuisine is the benchmark of this vegetarian restaurant. Menu items are not for the spice-fearing, nor for the low-fat conscious are many things are fried. Favorites (main courses around $7) include samosas, rasam, and the masala dosa. A yogurt drink called a lassi is a good way to wash down your meal and cool off your tongue. I highly recommend this restaurant. I live in Nashville and have been to Chicago only 4 times. Three of those visits include visits to Udupi Palance (sadly Vashist Worah did not tell me about it until after I returned the first time). The lemon pickle was amazing as was the coconut chutney, sambar and dosas. A real treat when you are used to eating Northern Indian in most restaurants.
