Nostalgic old world German establishment. Oldest continuously operating tavern in the city. - sys, 12/26/1999
Open since 1886, a great bar and restaurant known for its great food and warm atmosphere. Magic tricks performed nightly. - sys, 12/26/1999
i grew up going to my uncle's restaurant....my family and i miss it so much. thanks you guys!! - the niece of chuck schulien, 11/06/2001
Although the new establishment is nice, the restaurant will never be the same without the wonderful Schulien family at the helm. Chuck, Bob, Cathy, Al James, and all the established clientel (a real cast of characters who always had a hot card game going in the back room) All will be sorely missed but never but never forgetten! - Jimmy & Anne, 12/03/2000
I'm from Boston, MA. Although I've only been to Schulien's a few times I will never forget the magic, the food, the atmosphere or most importantly, the woderful Schulien family. I'll certainly miss it..Next time I'm in Chicago I can only hope I'll be able to find a restaurant almost as good.. - Kevin O'Maley, 07/19/2000
After 113 years as Chicago's oldest, continuously owned Restaurant and Saloon, Schulien's closed its doors forever on Wednesday night, January 27, 1999. The closing night was truly a great celebration of history, pride and a Chicago Tradition. You missed one of the bright stars in Chicago's history. It's 'Magic' will certainly be missed! Lee, 1/28/99 - Lee, 01/28/1999
Fine german restaurant but menu limited in number of selections. It also appears that you must be recognized or you will be banished to back room next to washrooms. Many waitresses helpful but one or two really pushy. - hans, 12/17/1998
A fine neighborhood establishment... Entree's are nicely prepared, very good. - steve, 10/03/1998
