Detail for Rajun Cajun : Restaurant, Indian / Soul Food
[an error occurred while processing this directive]
A former soul-heavy fast-food joint converted to equal parts soul food and Indian 'homestyle' cooking, Rajun Cajun stands as a representative for the peculiar mix of people that gives Hyde Park its character. It's a relatively cheap place to eat, and one can pick from a series of Indian or soul-food entrees and sides. Imagine getting tandoori chicken with chana masala and collard greens with black-eyed peas. Or spicy fried chicken with a samosa and some dal. All the dishes are good, and many swear that the fried chicken is not topped within the borders of Hyde Park. Additionally, the vegetarian combo meal (samosa, parotha, basmati rice and two vegetable sides) remains one of the cheapest and biggest meat-free meals available to University of Chicago students and local residents. The decor veers a bit too far on the quirky side--baby Krishna and Bourbon St. might not belong on the same wall--but the place has certainly earned the title of 'Best Restaurant in Hyde Park' from the University newspaper several years running. - Moacir P, 06/15/2005
