Detail for The Pump Room (closed) : Restaurant, Continental
[an error occurred while processing this directive]
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner served; call for hours. Located in the Omni Ambassador East, this restaurant is known as one of the city's premier special occasion restaurants, as well as a Chicago landmark. A typical French-inspired entree is Muscovy duck breast and confit of leg paired with a fluted phyllo cup of couscous in dry sherry sauce. Entrees in the $25 range.
The Pump Room recently celebrated its 65th anniversary - it was originally opened by Ernie Byfield in 1938. The namesake is the Pump Room in Bath, England. Historically, this eatery was The Place to be; this is evident by the gallery of celebrity photos. In 1976 the restaurant was purchased by Lettuce Entertain You, and in 1998 it was bought by Dallas Restaurant Group, and renovated. - sys, 09/27/2003
The food and and service were way above city standards, this was our second visit in one year and in our second visit the food improved enourmously. Also the addition of young managers changed this gourgeous room in a positive way. the young maitre de was always on the
floor and helped the service stopped by every table and made sure all guests are satisfied. We will be back more often to our favorite dining location in Chicago. - Bruce H., 07/06/2001
Excellent meal and wonderful service -- especially for our dinner for 30 people! The crab cake appetizers and white chocolate bread pudding were to die for! - Rebecca Pritchett, 06/28/1999
