Detail for Matsumoto (new name, Chiyo) : Restaurant, Japanese / Kaiseki
[an error occurred while processing this directive]
Kaiseki, the Japanese take on haute cuisine, is served at this modest storefront restaurant. Reservations are required at least a day in advance, during which diners are asked about dietary restrictions and if they'd like 7, 9, 10, or 11 courses ($80-$150). Most courses have a Japanese title that suggests the theme: agemono are fried dishes, yakimono are grilled dishes, and so forth. A decadent sashimi course includes toro dotted with real gold flecks and accompanied by cucumber, carrot, shaved daikon, and tiny scallion sticks. - Alotta, 09/22/2005
My girlfriend and I stopped in because the really good Mayan restaurant a block away was closed. We wanted to try it out when it was Matsumoto but never got around to it. We were very pleased with the food and service. Great selection of Japanese "tapas" on the menu. The duck was perfect. Highly recommended. The food tasted good and was very well presented. We spent $50 w/o drinks. - Greg, 08/15/2006
