Detail for Los Del Fines Restaurant : Restaurant, American

I found this wonderful restaurant quite by accident one Saturday after visitng my chiropractor nearby. I now drive all the way from Bloomingdale to Los Del Fines at least once each month...more if I can. The decor in unpretentious and you'll see most people in casual jeans at the same time dressed up family celebrations are being held. Service is friendly and unique...the servers frequently look at your table to anticipate what you need before you ask for it but not intrude...its like a small vacation. Music is always playing and everyone seems to be in a great mood. All of this is fine, but I go for the Camarones Rellenos. Helpings are not small and you may ask for a Doggy Bag. With most entrees, you have your choice of soup or a seafood tostada. The Camarones Rellenos is 6-7 jumbo shrimp wrapped in Mexican cheese and crispy bacon, served with the best potato salad you've ever had. There's also another fresh avocado salad that accompanys the main dish. Soups and seafood are really good and popular at this southside gem but other items are on the extensive menu. Don't expect a tablecloth or candles...expect friendly people who know good food. The beer's not bad either! You'll probably notice Maria Montes, a college student, or her mother, chef-owner Maria, working and watching over the front and back of the house. Mom Maria also makes a wonderful chocolate drink and homemade tamales from scratch. You'll start going back as often as I do. Bill Lavery BestChefs.com - Bill Lavery, 01/27/2005
