Emilio Gervilla's restaurants, sprinkled throughout the Chicagoland area, is known for consistent, delicious, authentic tapas offerings. A refreshing pitcher of sangria is a good accompaniment to tapas such as tomato bread triangles topped with Manchego ham and cheese, mussels in vinagrette, and grilled squid. A friend and I went to Emilio's Tapas Bar at Clark and Fullerton last night. The food was absolutely delicious! The portions were just the right size, and the flavors and combinations ran the gamut. I recommend the salmon on the potato pancake as well as the eggplant dish with carmelized onions, tomatoes and melted goat cheese. Another tasty dish was the boiled dates wrapped in bacon, served with a red pepper puree. I'm glad we saved



room for dessert, because they were stellar! We had a caramelized banana covered with chocolate and served with berries and fantastic vanilla ice cream. The atmosphere and decor were really nice. Our server was efficient, competent and friendly, until it was time for her to leave at which point she underwent a bit of a personality change. - babs, 05/07/2001
