Detail for Chicago Chop House : Restaurant, Steak / Seafood
[an error occurred while processing this directive]
This 100+ year old brownstone houses this classic Chicago steakhouse. An upstairs area features top-notch white linen service, where the downstairs piano bar features a more casual feel. Either place, an award-winning menu features prime-aged steaks, lamb, prime rib, pork chops, chicken, and seafood. Chicago Chop House is open Mon-Fri for lunch and dinner; average entree around $30. - Alotta, 06/23/2006
This was the worst experience ever. There is nothing speical about their steak. The atmosphere was acception but there was not enough lighting. The service was terrible. The waiter took forever to take our order and it took even longer for our food to come. At the end the waiter spilled water on me and when he apologized, he had such a sour look upon his face. There are plenty of other fine restaurants in the downtown area. Don't waste your time at this one. - Terrible, 08/19/2003
Although the food was adequate for a restaurant of this caliber, we found that the greeting and the level of service by the maitre d' and his staff were unprofessional and lacked personal touch.
Not recommended - while in Chicago there are many other finer establishments. - PBeasley, 04/20/2003
What a great place!!! We go there every time we get to Chicago and ALWAYS have great service and incredible food. The seared prime rib is wonderful, and the Filet with Austrailian Lobster tail is unbelievable! We recently (2-2002) took another couple with us and they also raved about everything. Absolutely our favorite restaurant! - John & Debbie M, 06/09/2005
We recently returned to the chop house for dinner. We used to be regualars and had our favorite waiter'Shawn'. when he left there we felt like the place didn't have the same flavor as it once held for us. We went saturday night and had Jeff as our waiter. He was preofessional enough. That is if you like to be told the same thing that you just heard him tell the last couple word for word. When I asked about the wine list and for a recomendation he made us feel like we were exhausting him. I think the restaurant should go back to the way it used to be, with waiters that had persoanlity and looked forward to you coming in. we were rushed from the moment we walked in till we left. I understand why our waiter left...Now if we can just find out where he works - Roger, 06/09/2005
As a Chicago native, I'm embarrassed to say that I had never been to the Chop House until my boyfriend, an out-of-towner took me there for dinner recently. The food was great. I've never eaten such a tender steak that practically melts in your mouth. It's his favorite place to eat while he's in Chicago, and it's on my list of favorites now too. We both highly recommend it for dinner. I do have to say that the service started out poorly though, but the waiter tried to make up for it later on. The atmosphere is casual, but perhaps we looked a little too casual for him!?!? I won't hold that against the restaurant though. My boyfriend and I will go back. - H Waarb, 06/09/2005
Dining is offered on three levels of this converted three-flat. Considered by many to be the best steakhouse in the city, all main dishes are accompanied by a baked potato and house salad. Starters include oysters Rockefeller and cherrystone clams. Open for lunch Mon-Fri, dinner served nightly. - Alotta, 06/09/2005
We ate at the Chicago Chop House on the advice given by a cab driver and found it to be fantastic. Every part of the meal was great and the service was good also. The Prime Rib was perfect, but the most memorable part of the meal for me was the Potato Pancakes. Absolutely the best I've ever tasted. This place definitely gets 5 stars. - Pat K, 06/09/2005
My husband and I visited The Chop House during a visit to Chicago looking for a home. We thought the food was very good with great seasoning, and our server was both professional and very pleasant. She was actually helping us pick a location to look for a new home. We definetly had a very good experience at the Chop house, which is why when guests come to visit us in Chicago we're bringing them to back to the Chop House with us. The only downfall of the restaurant is the lack of space. It gets very crowded in the lobby area and on the first floor while you're waiting for a table, so we suggest just waiting right outside and taking in the views of downtown Chicago. - klauser, 06/09/2005
I would like to let you know of the unpleasant experience dining at your restaurant on Saturday evening. When I called for reservations I was not told that the no smoking section was on the third floor and you have no elevator. We were celebrating my Mother's 70th birthday and she is unable to walk up stairs. When we mentioned this we were told(with an attitude) 'it was an historic building'. We ended up eating on the second level in the smoking section. If this wasn't bad enough both the food and the service was poor. Our waitress, Pam was very flip and when asked questions about the pork chops, she replied that she did not like them and people either loved them or hated them. She did not rave about anything on the menu.(I now know why) It does not make you feel good about ordering in a place where the people that work there doesn't like the food. I knew we were in trouble when we were served salads with ice berg lettuce and the dressing carelessly put on top. My mother had the whitefish which had no flavor at all, the pork chops tasted as if they were boiled and my steak had no seasoning. The potatoes were served with the sour cream - Bob M, 06/09/2005
