A train-themed room features walls painted with huge steam engines and boxcars, vintage train posters, and train knickknacks. Menu items include panini made with ciabatta rolls, cold sandwiches, scones, muffins, and cookies. Kid-friendly, a children's menu includes peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and hotdogs. Drinks include fruit smoothies and Intelligentisia coffee. Outdoor seating will be available in warmer months. - Alotta, 02/06/2004

The Boxcar was run by perhaps the nicest people in Chicago, from their first location on La Salle, to the larger one on Wrightwood. When I was sick, they'd insist I have some matzah ball soup for free. Their coffee was good and inexpensive. And all this with a D&D and Starbucks around the corner. I wanted to yell to people that the best cafe in town was around the corner, but did they listen? I hope the Boxcar has moved on around the corner. If not, I just wish the owners would know that often they were the highlight of my day. - ColdComputerGuy, 11/12/2006
