Open for lunch Mon - Fri; dinner served Mon - Sat, with food available on Fri - Sat until 11:30 pm; closed Sundays. Treat yourself to dazzling, if pricey, French-influenced contemporary American delights at this popular spot. Choose a starter of green and white asparagus salad, arranged on a round of Saint Maure goat cheese and served with baby beets, hedgehog mushrooms, and tossed with a walnut vinaigrette. Surf meets turf in the sturgeon dish, where three char-grilled strips of fish are placed on a bed of celery root hash, doused in a hearty broth full of chunks of braised oxtail and accented with rings of picked red onion. Meat dishes include roasted rack of lamb with salsify, and wood-grilled beef tenderloin au poivre served with Jerusalem artichokes. Save room for a divine apple and thyme tart crowned with homemade honey and lavender ice cream. A knowledgeable staff is ready to help you navigate the extensive wine list. - sys, 08/27/2002

Ihad dinner at Blackbird for the first time a few months ago. My girlfriends and I have a Tuesday night dinner club, where we sample different restaurants each week. The three of
us work at Villa Kula. I'm the pastry chef, and Victoria and Kelly are top notch servers. Some of my chefs, and a chef at my culinary school had raved about it, and we were glad to go. I love all things French, and we began with a bottle of champagne, and we ordered at least 4 appetizers, and the Hudson River Valler foie gras was phenomenal. I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of my dinner, and of course, the desserts were fabulous, and Victoria knows the pastry chef personally. Our dinner lasted about 3 hours, and we were the last to leave. Our waiter, allowed one of our companions to smoke inside the restaurant, and needless to say we took wonderful care of him. The staff was sharp, punctual, knowledgeble, and very hip and fun. We will be back. - Roberta W, 08/19/2005
