Detail for Berghoff (closed) : Restaurant, German / Beer
[an error occurred while processing this directive]
Open in 1898, this establishment features excellent sauerbraten and other German dishes. Creamed spinach and other side dishes are great. Berghoff Cafe next door is a great spot for lunch - try the Reuben sandwich. Main dining area: Step back in time 100 years in an oak-paneled room and enjoy a glass of 120 proof bottled-in-bond bourbon. A good main course is the sauerbraten or the pot roast.
Home of the first Chicago liquor license! Open for lunch and dinner Mon-Sat. - Alotta, 09/08/2005
It was announced today that the Berghoff will be closing its doors on Feb 28, 2006.
The current owner (a member of the Berghoff family) wishes to retire. - wm, 12/28/2005
Although the Berghoff Restaurant has closed, the children have retained a deli in the basement open for the business lunch crowd now called the Berghoff cafe - where you can still get their sandwiches and sausages. The dinning room is now split between a private catering service and a bar called 17 West at the Berghoff. - BAR MAID, 08/17/2006
Don't be a fool, go for the roast beef sandwich with
the horseradish at the bar. If Jon likes it, so will you! - Mateo, 10/26/2001
The Berghoff has wonderful food and beer in an old-time German atmosphere. And it is only a 10-minute walk from the Amtrak Station. We like to eat dinner there before catching our train home to Pennsylvania. - Bea and Bill, 09/02/2005
The Food Is Great!!, The Beer Even Better!!! - Bill W, 09/02/2005
