This cozy spot, adorned with folk art, is run by the mother-daughter team of Guadalupe Castellanos and Maria Huerta. An extension of their Lake Street restaurant, Barro, this newer spot departs from traditional Mexican food and concentrates on South American cuisine served tapas-style. Hot tapas include masa rounds topped with guacamole, sweet plaintains, and soft salty cheese; and chicken and potato croquettes served with chipotle aioli. Cold offerings include a small cactus filled with grilled shrimp and calamari. Open for lunch Sat; dinner served nightly; no smoking. - Alotta, 03/01/2004
