Chicago IL - Porchlight Music Theatre concludes its 20062007 season themed around The American ExperienceSet to Music, with the epic musical Ragtime in a new intimate production. Previews begin April 6, 2007 at Theatre Building Chicago, 1225 W. Belmont. The press opening is April 9 at 7:30pm. Ragtime runs through May 27. A nostalgic and powerful portrait of life in turn of the century America, Ragtime is based on E.L. Doctorows distinguished novel. The musical intertwines the stories of a Harlem musician, a wealthy New York family and a Latvian Jewish immigrant, and poignantly explores historys timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and love and hate. - wm, 04/06/2007
The performance schedule for Ragtime is Fridays and Saturdays at 7:45 p.m., and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. There will be two Wednesday matinees on 4/25 and 5/16 at 2 p.m. Thursday matinees will begin on May 3 and will be at 7:45 p.m. Tickets for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday performances are $35 ($5 off for students and seniors.) Tickets on Saturdays and Sundays are $34 ($5 off for students and seniors.) There are also half price rush tickets for students on the day of the show. - wm, 04/06/2007
