El Payo, Chicago's rising Rumba and Nuevo Flamenco Music and Dance Ensemble, will be performing at Rumba, 351 West Hubbard Street, August 24th, from 7-11 pm in order to raise money to benefit the work of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This concert marks the first collaborative effort of the flamenco music community in Chicago and Midwest to raise money for a charitable cause. Thanks to fundraising efforts like this and the work of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America, the survival rates from blood related cancers have tripled over the last 10 years. Today there is over an 80-85 survival rate. However, leukemia remains the leading cause of death in children under the age of 15. Every nine minutes, another child is expected to die from leukemia or lymphoma. This statistics represent 160 people each day- seven people every hour. EL PAYO will be playing three musical sets of Rumbas and Nuevo Flamenco Music and there will also be a live flamenco dance show. Rumba will be serving its famous martini's and sangria for $5. Join Rumba and EL PAYO in helping to fight cancer, the flamenco way! - Angela P., 08/09/2005
