[an error occurred while processing this directive]
The Irish American Heritage Center will host its first ever Day of the Dead/Samhain Art Festival this October. This free art show, co-sponsored by the Irish American Heritage Center and Windy City Arts, will run in conjunction with the City of Chicago's Artists' Month 2005. Chicago artists will display paintings and sculpture that examines the similarity and differences between the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead and the Celtic Samhain (Sow-en). Both festivals celebrate the central portion of birth, death and resurrection, the cycle of life and how it is recognized in Celtic and Mexican cultures. The ancient festival of Samhain is the beginning of winter and the yearly opening of the Celtic underworld. The festival will run from Friday, October 14 through Sunday, November 13. There will be an opening night reception on Friday, October 14 from 6pm-9pm. Hours are 1-5pm on Saturdays and Sundays and by appointment during the week. For more information, call the IAHC at 773-282-7035, ext. 10. - Kathy O, 07/26/2005
