Detail for Hidden Shamrock : Bar/Irish / Live Music
[an error occurred while processing this directive]
A fine selection of beer is available at the extra-long bar, including Guinness, Red Hook, and Honey Brown on draught. One pool table is located in the back bar area. Several TVs in the bar show soccer games. - sys, 01/08/2005
The Hidden Shamrock is a good irish pub with a variety of different crowds on any given day of the week. Food is good and inexpensive (I reccomend the chicken wings and the sheperd's pie), I also would reccomend visiting the Wednesday Night Open Mic. Lots of great free live performances. The host band is a comedy/rock band that really breaks the ice, and people dance! At an open mic?! crazy. Plus the Shamrock is split into two separate but equally large rooms, so if the music is too much or not your flavor, you can retire to the back room with booths, leather couches and a pool table and wait it out till the next person that blows your mind hits the stage. Pretty cool all around. Decent street parking too. - LiveMusicNut, 06/24/2008
The Hidden Shamrock is the only true
Irish bar in Chicago... Great pour, great friends, great bartenders and great music!! This place makes Irish Eyes on Lincoln look like a joke. - Sandoval, 09/24/2003
my friend and i were working in chicago this summer. hands down the best bar we found & met some of the coolest people there. most definetly plan on going back to visit next time in town. reminded us of bars back home in NY. thanks for the great food, great boos, great company and great music. your bar made our summer rock. we'll be back with more east coasters to enjoy the chicago/irish hospitality. cheers :) - slacker girls, 09/17/2003
Wednesday's open mic, hosted by Matt Neuroth, is one of the very best in the city. If you know a song or two, come by and play. If not, come by and listen to any one of the very talented regulars. Anyway you cut it, its a great time. - Bob Robertson, 07/23/2003
The Hidden Shamrock (known to some of us as 'The Rock') is by far Chicago's finest establishment. Since Shane's takeover it has continued to improve. This is the place
to be. On the weeknights, its nice to intake the live music and relax and on the weekends they have had to lock the door because everyone wants to be a part of it. The bartenders are great for a little chat and the regulars are the nicest people you'll ever meet. I have been a patron of this place for only a little more than a year but I have probably been there 300 times. Cheers boys! You never seize to amaze me. - A Loyal Fan, 08/26/2001
Since moving to Chicago in 1995 the Shamrock has been my favorite spot to meet friends and relax. You can always expect a good Guinness pour and good atmosphere. Sorry to see that the Shamrock isn't open in the afternoon anymore though. - D Rooney, 03/16/2001
I've visited the Shamrock more than once on visits to Chicago. It has made a consistently good impression. On each occasion, the Guinness pours weren't rushed and the barkeep was quite helpful. The Shamrock is located next to several pubs but none of them are its better. When I visit Chicago I'm always sure to stop by the Hidden Shamrock. - jeremy, 05/17/2000
I have recently returned to Chicago after a six week business trip to Dublin. I returned to Shamrock the first weekend after my return. I was impressed by the Guinness pour...it was a proper pint. The disco/funk band on Fri. 5-5 was an atmospheric assault (sorry...it seemed out of place). I had a pint of Caffrey's and it seemed very different (in a disappointing way) than a pint I had at the Shamrock in January. - Jeff S. -- ltoroguapo@yahoo.com, 05/11/2000
While I agree with the critic's view about the music volume (it's often much too loud for such a small space), The Hidden Shamrock is a very cozy watering hole filled with real Irish atmosphere, a fantastic jukebox, good food and a warm fireplace for those cold Chicago nights. Drop by! - Mike S. in Chicago, 01/17/1999
