We had a late lunch at Yenching in Boston. The service was slow and typically amateurish for such places (spilling water, banging dishes etc.) We enjoyed the food but the shocker was the check. The three of us at the table had decided that 10 percent was a decent amount for the tip but the waitress demanded (at the top of her voice) that it had to be minimum of 15 per cent as listed on the credit card receipt. On informing her that the 15, 20, 25 per cent on the receipt was optional she kept on insisting that it was the minimum that needed to be paid. Neither the menu nor any other place in the restaurant stated explicitly about gratuity.
