Established in 1961, Mr. Bartley's feeds the burger jones inventively. You will find here creative burgers named for celebrities and icons. Choose from beef, turkey, or veggie. Salads, sandwiches, and dinner plates are also available. In addition, Mr. Bartley's menu includes wraps and frappes (rhyme intended). Mr. Bartley's is definitely a Harvard Square institution. With burgers, wraps, and sandwiches named after up-to-date people in the news, as much enjoyment is derived from reading the menu as eating the mouth-filling beef patties. I had a Hot Carl with a side of fries and it came quickly. All the campy kitsch on the walls-posters, bumper stickers, funny cartoons-are also well-worth the effort. - bernardsison, 02/26/2004

Best burger you'll ever have, at least in Boston. They even know how to make a well-done burger that's cooked through without being dry. The only real negative is that the place doesn't have a bathroom. It's an old greasy spoon type of place, but the menu is huge and the ingredients all seem very fresh. I was extremely disappointed in teh food. I ordered a well done burger and waited 35 minutes. When it arrived, it was rare. The waitress was annoyed that I sent it back. When a new burger arrived, it was pink. This was my worst dining experience ever. - Matt, 09/08/2003
